The problem of estimating parameters of a Pareto distribution is investigated under a general scale invariant loss function when the scale parameter is restricted to the interval (0, 1]. We consider the estimation of shape parameter when the scale parameter is unknown. Techniques for improving equivariant estimators developed by Stein, Brewster–Zidek and Kubokawa are applied to derive improved estimators. In particular improved classes of estimators are obtained for the entropy loss and a symmetric loss. Risk functions of various estimators are compared numerically using simulations. It is also shown that the technique of Kubokawa produces improved estimators for estimating the scale parameter when the shape parameter is known.  相似文献

Recently, Lebon and Lambermont proposed a general variational principle for fluid mechanics. In this paper, the criterion is applied to steady and non-steady stagnation flows; the plane and the axisymmetrical cases are considered. By using Glansdorff-Prigogine self consistent method, approximate analytic solutions are derived. It is shown that the steady solution is rather quickly reached. For this latter case, the present solutions are compared with previous ones obtained by direct integration of the Navier-Stokes equations.  相似文献

In this paper, the differences of turbulent coherent structure between the smooth and rough boundary layers are analysed. Based on the discussing the transient properties from the smooth wall to the rough wall, the physical model of coherent structure for the rough boundary layer are established. Finite volume schemes are commonly used to construct approximate solutions to conservation laws. In this study we extend the framework of the finite volume methods to dispersive water wave models, in particular to Boussinesq type systems. We focus mainly on the application of the method to bidirectional nonlinear, dispersive wave propagation in one space dimension. Special emphasis is given to important nonlinear phenomena such as solitary waves interactions, dispersive shock wave formation and the runup of breaking and non-breaking long waves.  相似文献

An exponential inequality for the tail of the conditional expectation of sums of centered independent random variables is obtained. This inequality is applied to prove analogues of the Law of the Iterated Logarithm and the Strong Law of Large Numbers for conditional expectations. As corollaries we obtain certain strong theorems for the generalized allocation scheme and for the nonuniformly distributed allocation scheme.  相似文献

The evolution of the closed Friedmann Universe with a packet of short scalar waves is considered with the help of the Wheeler–DeWitt equation. The packet ensures conservation of homogeneity and isotropy of the metric on average. It is shown that during tunneling the amplitudes of short waves of a scalar field can increase catastrophically promptly if their influence to the metric is not taken into account. This effect is similar to the Rubakov-effect of catastrophic particle creation calculated already in 1984.In our approach to the problem it is possible to consider a self-consistent dynamics of the expansion of the Universe and amplification of short waves. It results in a decrease of the barrier and interruption of of amplification of waves, and we get an exit of the wave function from the quantum to the classically available region.  相似文献
